Creamy Cajun Tortellini is a decadent, spicy pasta dish that comes together in a flash. Cheesy tortellini, andouille sausage and bell peppers simmered in a creamy cajun sauce.
When it comes to easy tortellini recipes, I have got you covered. One of my favorite weeknight time savers is fresh pasta. Especially fresh tortellini. All you need to do to cook tortellini is to boil it in a pot of water until it floats. Usually about 3 – 5 minutes. Toss it in sauce and you’re good to go. A quick and hearty meal on the table is less than thirty minutes.
Take this Creamy Cajun Tortellini for instance. It can be done in about 20 minutes and it is LOADED with flavor. The cheese tortellini and spicy andouille sausage make it hearty, the cajun seasoning gives it a kick and the creamy sauce evens it all out. This pasta is easy, creamy, cheesy and a little spicy. You’re going to love it.
Let’s talk about the ingredients you’ll need to make it.
Creamy Cajun Tortellini Ingredients:
THREE CHEESE TORTELLINI: You can use frozen or fresh tortellini, simply cook it according to package directions.
BUTTER/OLIVE OIL: A blend to sauté the vegetables in.
GREEN BELL PEPPER: I like the pop of the green color that green bell pepper adds, but you could use orange, red, yellow or a combo.
ONION: Yellow or white onion will work the best.
GARLIC: Add a subtle garlic flavor to the cream sauce.
ANDOUILLE SAUSAGE: A sightly spicy, smoked pork sausage.
CAJUN SEASONING: When it comes to Cajun Seasoning, you could make your own. But if you don’t want to, cajun seasoning is pretty easy to find on super market shelves. It might also be called Blackened Seasoning or Cajun Blacken Seasoning. Keep in mind that many of them already contain salt, so I recommend tasting your dish before adding any salt.
HEAVY CREAM: I have made this recipe with heavy cream, whole milk and half and half. For the creamiest, richest sauce heavy cream is hands down the winner. The other two will work in a pinch but this pasta will be far more decadent with the cream.
SOUR CREAM: Will add a bit of tanginess to the sauce.
PARMESAN CHEESE: Use freshly shredded mozzarella for the best results!
Step by Step Photos and Instructions:
The best part about this Creamy Cajun Tortellini, in addition to being scrumptious, is the fact that it’s done in less than 30 minutes. That makes it perfect for weeknight meals. Follow along with these Step by Step Photos and Instructions.
STEP #1: Cook pasta according to package directions.
STEP #2: Meanwhile, heat olive oil and butter together in a large skillet. Add onions, garlic and bell peppers. Cook just until softened. Add andouille.
STEP #3: Reduce heat, add in cajun seasoning, cream and sour cream. Stir until sour cream is mixed in well. Stir in parmesan cheese and stir until melted.
STEP #4: Add in tortellini and toss to coat completely. Serve immediately.
Storage and Leftovers:
Store any leftovers in the refrigerator and eat within a few days. The sauce may break upon reheating and become more buttery than creamy but will still be delicious!

Tortellini can be filled with various things. For this recipe, you’ll use cheese tortellini thats usually a blend of a few cheeses like ricotta and parmesan. You can also find tortellini filled with various meats like chicken and prosciutto.
