Want to enjoy fried pickles without the guilt? These Air Fryer Fried Pickles are crispy, delicious and use a fraction of the oil of their deep fried counterparts.
Where are my deep fried pickles fans?? They are popular at bars across the country and county fairs. They are crispy, tangy bites that sound weird at first but man, oh man, are they good.
What if I told you you could enjoy all the crispy, tanginess of deep fried pickles with just a spritz of oil? That is exactly what these Air Fryer Fried Pickles are. They are easy. You only need a handful of ingredients.
And they are delicious.
PICKLE CHIPS: Sometimes called hamburger slices, work best for these fried pickles.
MILK/EGG: This is to make something for the bread crumbs to stick to.
PANKO BREADCRUMBS: I love using panko whenever I make any kind of fried food. Whether it’s air fried, deep fried or pan fried, I frequently use panko. Panko adds an extra crunch factor that is perfect for fried food.
PLAIN DRY BREADCRUMBS: These add an extra bit of coverage to the breading.
DILL: The pickles are dill but I like to add a little more dill to the coating for extra flavor.
NON-STICK SPRAY: This is the only oil that you’ll need for this recipe. A simple spray of the pickles before they are air fried is all you need to get a golden brown crust on these air fried pickles.
STEP #1: Place the pickles between two paper towels. Pat them dry.
STEP #2: Whisk together egg and milk. Dip pickles in egg/milk wash.
STEP #3: Combine panko, plain bread crumbs and dill together in a shallow bowl. Dredge pickles into mixture.
STEP #4: Place pickles in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Spray with non-stick spray. Cook at 375 for 10 minutes. Remove basket and shake after 5 minutes. Return basket and cook for the remaining 5 minutes.
DES’ TIP:Depending on the size of the air fryer, you may need to do this part in batches. You don’t want to overcrowd the basket or the pickles won’t get that crispy.
We loved these air fryer fried pickles. I served them with creamy ranch dip but they were just as good by themselves too! You can even put them on burgers like I do with this Fried Pickle Burger.
