Crispy Air Fryer Chickpeas are the perfect afternoon snack! This extremely versatile recipe can be used with any of your favorite seasonings.
Did you get an air fryer recently and looking for more ways to use it? How about a quick snack recipe that is easy enough to make any time you get the craving? If you answered yes, look no further, these Air Fryer Chickpeas are exactly what you are looking for.
We are a huge fan of crispy chickpeas around here but they usually involve frying them in a hot skillet. They are great but I’ve found a way to make them even easier! Dump them all in the air fryer basket and you’re good to go!
CANNED CHICKPEAS: Canned chickpeas, also called garbanzo beans, are fully cooked. They are high in protein, fiber and vitamins. Dried chickpeas won’t work in this recipe.
OIL: Vegetable or olive oil will work just fine.
SEASONING BLEND: Our favorite way to season crispy chickpeas is to use curry powder. That being said, this recipe is SO versatile. You could use any seasoning blend that you prefer. Taco seasoning, harissa, rosemary, simple salt and pepper. Once you’ve got the technique down it’s super easy to switch it up.
SALT: Because we use curry powder that doesn’t usually have salt in it, I add extra salt to this recipe. If the seasoning blend that you use has salt, wait until after cooking and tasting before adding extra salt.
Like I said, one of my favorite things about this recipe is just how incredibly easy it is. You don’t even need to worry about cooking the chickpeas in batches, just dump them all in the basket at once and you’re good to go!
STEP #1: Rinse and drain chickpeas well. Place between two paper towels and pat dry.
DES’ TIP: Making sure that the chickpeas are dry is essential in getting them crispy so don’t skip this step!
STEP #2: Place chickpeas, olive oil, salt and seasoning together in a bowl. Mix well so that chickpeas are completely coated. Please note: if you choose a seasoning blend with salt in it wait until after cooking and tasting before adding extra salt.
STEP #3: Pour all chickpeas into the air fryer basket. Cook at 390 for 15 minutes. Remove the basket and shake every 5 minutes. If you want them a little more crispy cook an additional few minutes. Serve hot.
It is best to eat these as soon as they are cool enough to eat. They are still good cold but best when they are warm.
