A Peppermint Patty Cocktail is the perfect Christmas drink! Hot chocolate, peppermint schnapps and creme de cacao make it a Merry Christmas indeed.
Christmas is less than a week away now, friends. You’re probably wrapping presents right? Watching your favorite Christmas classic? Well I have got the perfect cocktail to help you do both of those things: A Peppermint Patty Drink.
Nothing says Christmas cocktail like a peppermint patty. Have you ever had a peppermint patty? I’m not talking about the candy. No, no, no. I am talking about a Peppermint Patty Cocktail. It is basically Christmas in a cup friends, and you need it in your life.
I still remember my first Peppermint Patty. On a cold night shortly after I turned 21.
A bartender at the bar a few of us servers would go to after work approached our table and asked “Can I start you with a cocktail, maybe a Peppermint Patty?”
My immediate thought was, “Is she offering me candy?” Since I figured that wasn’t right, I asked what it was. She replied “Just think a minty hot chocolate for adults”.
Mint? Chocolate? SOLD! When I took my first sip, the chocolate and minty peppermint schnapps warmed me right up. It was like Christmas in a cup and each year I make myself at least one.
For this Peppermint Patty Cocktail recipe, I use hot chocolate mix, whole milk, peppermint schnapps and creme de cacao. Oh my gosh you guys. It’s so chocolatey and minty.
And because they make everything better, you’ve got to load it up with Christmas sprinkles. Am I right? Just look how festive it is!
Unlike Creme de Menthe, Peppermint Schnapps is a clear liqueur. It has a proof of 50 and you can drink it straight or, how I prefer, in various cocktails. Peppermint Schnapps is the perfect liqueur for this Peppermint Patty Cocktail because of its candy cane taste.
Creme de Cacao is a sweet chocolate flavored liqueur. You will also taste a hint of vanilla. It’s most commonly used in mocha and other coffee drinks.
Making a peppermint patty drink has become a tradition in our home each Christmas eve. And after one sip you will see why.
So make a batch of this. Get cozy, turn on your favorite Christmas movie and make holiday memories with your family and friends.

December 21, 2023 at 7:16 amLooks amazing and I have everything needed to make them-win! We’ll be adding this to the cocktail cart Christmas Eve. I would caution Saying Peppermint Schnapps is only 50 proof however; the bottle in my cabinet says 100 proof.

December 11, 2009 at 1:06 pmI saw this recipe, copied it, and made it two nights ago. I had another last night. What a wonderful way to warm up before going to bed, when I have to hunker under the covers with the livestock holding those covers dow, in order to keep me warm. While I wouldn’t call it habit forming, I definitely would call it a winter warming tradition, now that I’ve found it. Thanks oodles.
