Shrimp and Bacon Linguine

I recently got a copy of The Flavor Bible. I figured it would help me find new flavor combinations that I had not previously thought of. And boy was I right. My latest flavor combo, which for some strange reason I had yet to try, is shrimp and bacon. Iā€™m not quite sure why I had never tried it before but man oh man is it delicious. Take this pasta for instance with shrimp, bacon and onions trust me when I tell you you wonā€™t be able to get enough.

I donā€™t normally recommend things on this blog, but I really am a fan of this book. Its not new, its been out for a while but I just bought myself a copy. Itā€™s not your typical cookbook as there are no recipes in it. Instead it has hundreds of ingredients and tells you what flavors go best with each ingredient. Iā€™ve learned so much from it already and Iā€™ve only had it a week or two. For this reason, Iā€™m also going to give away a copy. All you have to do is leave a comment telling me your favorite flavor combination. Sweet, salty, sour. Whatever. I’m curious. My personal favorite: garlic and onions. I’ll pick a winner at random.

Now on to the recipe.

I think it really depends on my mood, the time of year, and what kind of food is in season… but I’ll never say no to the sweet/salty combination of a chocolate covered pretzel!

I don’t really have a favorite combo, but I’ve been making something similar to what you made, it’s a linguine with garlic & shrimp & mushrooms (cooked in butter, a few tablespoons, to make a sort-of-sauce) and some feta cheese to finish it :) (Can’t wait to try yours though!) Then there’s also chocolate banana bread… and french toast with peaches… sooo good.

I like really unexpected combinations. Right now I like strawberries and green garlic. they can actually take a lot of green garlic – I made a gazpacho with this combo (+ tomatoes), and also green garlic and strawberry sushi.

All year round, I will eat virtually anything with lime on it. It makes everything better, especially salty things like popcorn or potato chips. But if you’re into unusual salty-sweet flavor combinations, nothing is better than chocolate-covered potato chips.

Butter and lemon. Whether you’re cooking a nice piece of fish (or any seafood, for that matter), or wilting spinach or other vegetables, it always lets the flavor of the main ingredients come through while giving it a rich and rounded balance.

Hey first time commentor, long time follower. I have made plenty of your recipes for my wife and she has loved them all, me too! The flavor combinations I really enjoy are garlic & ginger and also lime & cilantro. And for a somewhat odd, balsamic and strawberry can taste pretty darn good.
