Blackberry Jam

Jump to Recipe

This Blackberry Jam is sweet n’ tart and a great way to use fresh summer blackberries. And, this small-batch refrigerator jam is easy to make!

What is your favorite way to enjoy fresh summer berries? Do you like putting them in a pie like this Blueberry Pie? Maybe fresh Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade is more your style. Or maybe you like a classic Strawberry Icebox Cake? All are good options, obviously.

I must say though that one of my personal favorite things to do with fresh summer berries is to turn them into a sweet jam. But I’ll also be the first one to admit that I am not a canner. So instead of a large batch of jam made for canning, I like to make small batches of jam (think 1/2 cup) that you can store right in your refrigerator with no canning involved.

This Blackberry Jam is my latest kitchen creation and is going to be a new summer time must for sure. Let’s talk about what you’ll need to make it.

Blackberry Jam Ingredients:

  • BLACKBERRIES: Juicy, plump fresh blackberries are the best for this jam.
  • SUGAR: Blackberries can be pretty tart so sugar is important to make sure that the jam has sweetness.
  • LEMON JUICE: Will help add acidity and brightness to the jam and also help it set.
  • FRESH GINGER: Adds a warm, sweet flavor to the jam.
  • LEMON ZEST: For a bit more brightness and lemon flavor.
  • SALT: Will bring out the flavor of every ingredient.

Step by Step Photos and Instructions:

One of my favorite things about this Blackberry Jam Recipe, besides the deliciousness, is just how easy it is to make. There is no canning involved and you can make it all in one small pot.

  • STEP #1: Combine all of the ingredients together in a small saucepan.
  • STEP #2: Use a potato masher to gently mash the ingredients together. This will help give the jam a chunky texture.
  • STEP #3: Cook the jam over medium heat just until it starts to boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 – 20 minutes or until jam thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  • STEP #4: Allow jam to cool slightly and transfer jam into a clean jar and store in the refrigerator.

Storage and Leftovers:

Keep this blackberry jam in the refrigerator and use within a week.

This Blackberry Jam is great on toast, biscuits, pancakes and pb&j sandwiches!
