Molasses Cookies are a Christmas cookie staple! This recipe yields perfectly chewy Molasses cookies. They will be a hit with your family, friends & Santa!
When it comes to Christmas cookies, one of the recipes that has to be made each and every year is molasses cookies. There is something about the brown sugar, molasses and ginger that just scream Christmas cookie.
During my trials to develop a recipe, I ended up adding more molasses on accident. The result was cookies that weren’t as thick as I wanted them to be. In fact, they were a little flat. But guys, they are so perfectly chewy.
Like. So. perfect.
In fact, my family loves them. And they are going in our Christmas cookie boxes this year too. I thought, since they were such a hit that I should totally share them with you before the holiday.
Let’s talk about some of the key ingredients you need to make these perfectly chewy molasses cookies.
Butter: I mean obviously! They are cookies!
Brown Sugar: I love the extra added molasses and chewiness brown sugar brings to the cookies.
Molasses: Use the full flavor variety!
Cinnamon, Ginger and Cloves: These spices give the cookies the spice flavor you’re accustomed to.
Granulated Sugar: This is for rolling the cookies in before baking. It helps them get that sugary top.
Step #1: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Beat together butter, brown sugar, molasses and egg together.
Step #2: Add in the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt. Beat until well combined. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour.
DES TIP: As much as you might want to, don’t skip the chilling!
Step #3: Use a cookie scoop to make tablespoonfuls of dough. Roll dough balls in granulated sugar.
Step #4: Place on parchment paper on a baking sheet 2 inches apart. Bake in preheated oven for 8 – 10 minutes.
Like I said, if you are looking for the most perfect chewy molasses cookies, this recipe is exactly what you need. Leave one or two with a glass of milk for Santa to guarantee a permanent spot on the nice list!

December 17, 2020 at 7:45 amHI – I love your recipes. I’m trying to print the Molasses cookie recipe here. Is there a way to print it easily? When I hit the print button, it does not include your photos …. or if I print it from the web, it is numerous pages with lots of other stuff. If I print to pdf, it doesn’t include photos, etc.
