Creamy Cajun Chicken Pasta a rich and decadent. Tender pieces of chicken simmered in a creamy cajun sauce tossed with pasta. Always a hit!
It’s always fun to try to recreate restaurant dinners at home isn’t it? One of my favorite pastas when I worked in a restaurant several years ago was the Creamy Cajun Chicken Pasta. This is such a popular dish that you’ll actually find it on many restaurant menus.
It’s no wonder it’s so popular though! Tender chicken pieces are simmered in a creamy cajun sauce with sautéed peppers and onions. Then it’s all tossed with hot pasta to make one decadent meal.
CHICKEN: Boneless skinless chicken works best in this recipe. I used chicken breasts but chicken thighs would also work. Whichever you choose you just want to cut it into bite sized pieces.
CAJUN SEASONING: Now that I have been making my own DIY cajun seasoning, I’ve been using that in this recipe. You can make own or use your favorite store-bought blend.
BUTTER/OIL: To sauté the veggies in. Adding oil to the butter will help prevent the butter from burning.
ONION/GREEN BELL PEPPER/RED BELL PEPPER: Cut into a small dice, all the same size so they cook evenly. You could also use yellow or orange bell pepper.
HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM: Don’t substitute milk or half and half. Heavy cream is needed to give this dish richness.
SOUR CREAM: Adds a touch of tang as well as extra creaminess.
PASTA: I prefer to use a long noodle like linguine or fettuccine. Use your favorite!
STEP #1: Creamy Cajun Chicken Pasta is a rich and decadent. Tender pieces of chicken simmered in a creamy cajun sauce tossed with pasta. Always a hit!
STEP #2: Heat butter and olive oil together in a large pan until butter melts. Add in green and red bell peppers, onion and garlic. Cook just until they start to soften about 3 minutes. Remove and set aside.
STEP #3: To the same pan you cooked the veggies in, add the marinated chicken. Cook until browned and cooked through, 5 – 7 minutes. Return veggies to the pan.
STEP #4: Add cream and sour cream to the pan. Cook until the sour cream has dissolved into sauce and sauce is smooth. Add in noodles and toss to coat. Turn off heat. Allow to set 5 minutes. Stir once more, season to taste with salt and serve.
My family loved this easy meal! I loved how decadent and creamy it was (not to mention easy clean up too!) The husband and kiddos loved how flavorful it was. It really was a hit all around and I’m sure this Creamy Cajun Chicken Pasta will be a favorite in your home too!
