DIY Cajun Seasoning is the perfect way to add a little spice to your next meal. It is great on french fries, in pastas, fried chicken and so much more.
If you are looking for the best way to add flavor and spice to your next meal, this DIY Cajun Seasoning is the way to go. It’s full of flavor, has just the right amount of heat and will add a little kick to just about anything you sprinkle it on.
Perusing the spice aisle, you’ll find a handful of cajun seasoning blends. Some will be hot, some will be salt free, some mild. This DIY Cajun Seasoning falls somewhere in the middle. It has a little heat but is not overpowering. It does contain celery salt but not regular salt so it’s not overtly salty either. This really is a fantastic blend that you are sure to want to use in so many recipes.
What seasonings are in Cajun Seasoning?
GRANULATED GARLIC: I buy a big container of this at Costco so I have it on hand at all times. I prefer to use granulated garlic over garlic powder because it doesn’t clump together and unlike garlic salt, adds no extra salt to dishes.
PAPRIKA: This adds a smokiness and color to the seasoning blend.
CELERY SALT: This is the salt in the seasoning. It adds a salty, tangy flavor.
DEHYDRATED ONION: This gives the seasoning blend an added texture.
DRIED THYME: Thyme is one of my favorite herbs. It’s peppery and adds an earthy, slightly lemony flavor.
WHITE PEPPER: Is a little milder and has a lighter flavor than black pepper. You could substitute black pepper if you want a little more of a kick.
CAYENNE PEPPER: This is where the majority of the heat comes from in this recipe. It calls for 1/4 teaspoon and that gave it just a little kick but my kiddos could still eat it. If you want to add more heat up it to 1/2 teaspoon.
How to make your own Cajun Seasoning:
Like any seasoning blend, this Cajun Seasoning is super easy to make. All you need to do is combine all of the ingredients together in a bowl and whisk.
You can store the seasoning blend in a spice jar or other air tight container for several months. It won’t “go bad” but it will lose its potency overtime.
What do you use this seasoning blend for?
The answer: ALL THE THINGS. I’m not kidding guys, this is a goody. It’s just great on so many things.
