Ham and Cheese Quiche

Jump to Recipe

Ham and Cheese Quiche is a great way to use up leftover ham. This decadent quiche is made with diced ham and shredded gruyere cheese.

Quiches are one of my favorite ways to fancy up my brunch game. They are one of those dishes that seem like they might take a lot of effort and time but they are actually incredibly easy to make. Especially if you take advantage of pre-made pie crust. You can have a quiche on the table in no time.

And not only are quiches, easy to make but there are endless possibilities for ingredients you can add to them. For this recipe we’re making a Ham and Cheese Quiche. It’s perfect for those days after a big holiday when you’ve got ham leftover and are looking for a way to use it.

Let’s talk about what you need to make it:

Ham and Cheese Quiche Ingredients:

You’ll only need a handful of ingredients to make a ham and cheese quiche and most of them you probably have on hand.

Ham and cheese quiche ingredients.
  • PIE CRUST: You can totally make your own pie crust if you have the time, but pre-made pie crust works great for this. And it saves you time!
  • EGGS: Obviously you can’t have a quiche without them!
  • HEAVY CREAM: Heavy cream is going to give you the most decadent quiche. You can however, substitute half and half or whole milk if you have it on hand.
  • HAM: I simply diced up some leftover ham that we had on hand. You want thicker pieces of ham rather than the thin deli slices.
  • CHEESE: I used gruyere cheese in this recipe because I love the flavor combination of ham and gruyere. That being said, you can substitute another cheese if you like. Cheddar would be great or maybe pepper jack if you want to spice things up a bit!
  • OLIVE OIL: To sauté the onion.
  • ONION: Caramelized onion gives this quiche a deep rich umami flavor.
  • SALT AND PEPPER
  • PARSLEY: For garnish.

Step By Step Photos and Instructions:

It doesn’t take much time to to put a quiche together, let me walk you through the steps!

  • STEP #1: You will need to blind bake the pie crust. This will help prevent the quiche from being gummy. If you need tips on how check out this article How to Blind Bake a Pie Crust from Simply Recipes.
  • STEP #2: Heat olive oil in a skillet over low heat. Add onion and cook on low until they are softened and brown.
  • STEP #3: In a bowl whisk together eggs, heavy cream, salt and pepper.
  • STEP #4: Build the quiche. In the pre-baked pie crust, layer the cheese, onions and ham. Pour the eggs over the top. Bake at 350 for 45 – 50 minutes or until cooked through. If the quiche starts to brown too much on the top cover loosely with aluminum foil.

Storage and leftovers:

In addition to being easy to make and delicious, ham and cheddar quiches also keep and reheat well. Keep it covered in the refrigerator and eat within a few days. You can simply reheat in the microwave for 30-ish seconds.

Should you pre-bake the crust before making a quiche?

Yes! This will help prevent the quiche from being gummy. The crust takes longer to cook than the eggs.

Can I use milk instead of cream when making quiche?

Yes, you can. However, cream does give quiche a bit more richness.

What cheeses are better for quiche?

You will want to use a cheese that will melt or be soft and creamy when cooked. Cheeses like gruyere, cheddar, swiss, mozzarella or jack are great choices. As are goat cheese, and feta.
