Caramelized Onions

If you've ever wondered how to Caramelize Onions, this recipe is for you! Cooking onions low and slow will give you perfectly sweet caramelized onions every time.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds yellow onions about 3 medium onions
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt plus more to taste

Instructions

  • Peel and slice onions into 1/2 inch slices.
  • Heat butter and olive oil in a large heavy bottomed skillet. Once butter has melted add in sliced onions. Once they start to sweat, reduce heat to low.
  • Cook onions low and slow until they are brown and caramelized, 30 - 40 minutes. Season with salt and serve.

Notes

Be careful not to slice the onions too thin or they are more likely to burn.
